Theme : Welcome Party of Chinese Corner…..
Place : Li Zheng Dao Theater Room Activity : This activity was opened by Caroline Cong, instructor of Chinese Corner. She gave an opening speech to us. After that, the speech was continued by the leader of the Chinese Corner and then the opening party began…
The first performance was an aerobic dance by Chinese teachers. They gave us a wonderful performance and many of us gave our big applause to them. During the party we offered the audience some snacks, so they could enjoy the party.
Umi Habibah and Wishnu, the Management students 2008, showed their talents in the following performance. They read the poem beautifully and fluently. Then Bagus and Sandra, the next performers, sang together with a song entitled Endless Love (Ost. The Myth). Right after that, a poem was read by Wulan from Management Study Program 2009. Our teacher, Caroline Cong also sang and read a Chinese modern poem to us. After that, Bagus and Anita performed an orphan song, continued by Anita with her solo performance. In the end the party was closed by a speech from Laoshi and the leader of the Chinese Corner.

Time : Friday, 6th November 2009
Theme : “All About China”
Activities :
This was the second meeting for Chinese Corner, we decided the theme for this meeting “All About China”. In this activity we watched the video about Culture in China like Custom, Food, Traditional Dance, Tourism, Wushu, etc together. We were so impressed by the glorious culture of China, for it has unique style and different from the others. By watching this video we have gained a lot of information about China and it is very helpful for us to understand the Chinese culture.
After watching the video, we were divided into 4 small groups and talked about impression of China. We then made friends with each other, talked about our hobbies, and campus life in Ma Chung etc. From this activity, we learned how to speak in simple sentences by the words that we had learned. We also learned a lot of new vocabulary. This activity helped us to improve our ability to speak and learn more about China.

Time : Friday, Friday, 20th November 2009
Theme : “ Chinese poem”
Place : Li Zheng Dao Theater Room Activities : There were two topics for this meeting. The first was Chinese poem and the second was about hometown.
Cong Laoshi introduced general information to us about Chinese Poem and Li Bái, who is one of the most popular poet in Ancient China. We were acquainted with one of his household poem – “Jìng yè sī”. With the help of some other Chinese lecturers, we tried to read the verse of the poem together. In order to help us read more fluently the poem, Cong Laoshi played some poem recording.
After that, we talked about our hometown. Firstly, Laoshi gave us some useful sentence patterns on the screen, then helped us to practice, after that, we talked individually about our hometown with all the Chinese lecturers. Of course, we had to talk in Chinese all the time. We discussed many things about our hometown like where our hometown is, why we like our hometown, what our hometown has, what our hometown is famous for, and what it has given to us. It is a very interesting language practice.

Theme : Chinese cartoon

Activities :
Friday, 4 December 2009 is our fourth meeting of Chinese Corner. We watched video about Chinese custom, food, zodiac, kungfu, etc. This video showed many interesting things to us, and we were so impressed. After that we watched another video about Chinese cartoon “dòng hua piàn” in Chinese, and then the teacher asked to us to retell the story. Each of us tried very hard to memorize this story and the new words in the cartoon. Of course, it was difficult for us, for it was the very first time for us to retell the story in Chinese. Although we felt very nervous to give our first shot, we had benefits from that.
