Ma Chung University, represented by Peter R.Y. Pasla, has signed the Global Compact Pledge at Hotel Mulia, Jakarta, on December 13, 2007. IMA (Indonesian Marketing Association) cooperating with the UN held the signing ceremony of the Global Compact Pledge attended by approximately 750 invitees. Mr. J.W. Junardi, IMA President, concurrently the Coordinator of the Global Compact Pledge in Indonesia, as chairperson of the steering committee  and Ms.Martha Tilaar, the Founding Partner of the Global Compact Pledge in Indonesia, opened the ceremony by delivering their welcome speeches.

Mr. Koffie Anan, the UN Secretary General then, supported by tens of the world business leaders, launched the Global Compact on July 26, 2000. The goal of the Global Compact is to appeal to business companies, the UN bodies, civil society, and labour all over the world, to collaborate to apply the ten Global Compact principles that are based on the basic human rights, balanced and fair industrial relationship, conservation of nature, and the eradication of corruption.

Since 2006 more than 70 companies and organizations in Indonesia have signed their pledge and participated in the Global Compact activities.  Ma Chung University together with other 55 organizations in Indonesia pledged their participation in supporting the Global Compact Pledge at the ceremony on December 13, 2007. There are now more than 4,000 companies and organizations the world over, including Coca-Cola and Microsoft, that support this international movement, to ensure that globalization really benefits mankind, especially the poor, to the utmost.
