Ma Chung University’s book review program was lead by Nurafni Eltivia, S.E., MSA, Ak.  and the moderator was Tedy Herlambang, Ph.D.  Mochtar Riady , the author, explained the basic view of nanotechnology: some basic  substance from the nature is actually built from its smallest structure particles. The author, then, gave some examples of a big tree which comes from a tiny seed, a long journey always started with the first step, and how sophisticated human body is, actually, made up from invisible DNA.

In addition, the world scientists are now in progress of conducting research of how engineering of some atoms can create new action and interaction resulting a new substance and the term “Nanotechnology” then emerges in nanometer scale.

Nanotechnology can be applied in management as a research on company or institution’s operational and management research have the same characteristics: starting from the very small unit, the lowest layer. This is where nanotechnology implemented in running a company.

A company can be analogically compared with organic body where human as the main element. Like human, most companies start from the process of birth, aging, contracting disease, and miscarriage. To maintain a vitality of human body, organizational metabolism very much depends on the process of actions and interactions between atoms in every Operational Line, whereas activities in a company is actually a combination of a number of operational lines in every work unit from bottom to top level. And, the operation line can be like the DNA in the company that has some kinds of atom elements:

• A Working Flowchart that explains “Who to do”
• Job Descriptions that explains “What to do”
• Working method components that explains “How to do”
• Material objects that explain” What materials must be done”

The Book Review Program was attended by all lecturers, staff, and students of UMC. Mochtar Riady hoped that UMC in its early stage can manage education properly, as expressed in this program: “We are young but we are serious, we are small but we are smart.”
