Technofest 2011 – An Insightful Seminar December 14, 2011
As part of the final exams for their “odd” semester, the undergraduates of the first semester for the Systems Information Study Program Universitas Ma Chung organized a series of events called Technofest 2011. In this IT exhibition was also participated by vendors of IT, photography and also telecommunications within Malang from 6 – 8 December 2011. The final event of this Technofest was an interesting and insightful seminar on Saturday 10 December 2011.
East Java Varsities English Debate December 05, 2011 The full capacity of the undergraduates from Universitas Ma Chung in national debating competitions has not been felt. And that was precisely why many training sessions and competition experience was necessary to significantly equip them further. To offer them the real experience of competing, four undergraduates from Universitas Ma Chung – namely Linda Martin Prasetyo (Information System 2011), Poppy Permata (English Literature 2010), Stefani (Management 2010) and Donny Susilo (Management 2009) – participated in the East Java Varsities English Debate (EJVED) which was organized by the English Literature Student Union of Universitas Negeri Malang (Legato) on 19-20 November 2011.
A visit from Hunan Normal University November 24, 2011 Universitas Ma Chung has offered its best to equip its undergraduates with the best skill to communicate in Mandarin, seeing that it is now a useful language in the business and professional world. Native speakers from China were also brought to the University for the undergraduates to learn more effectively and intensively.
Sustainable Development’s Tree Planting Ceremony November 23, 2011 As a continued activity from the workshop named You+Me: Save the World Now held last October, the Directorate of Character Building and Leadership held a Tree Planting Ceremony within the grounds of Universitas Ma Chung on Monday 14 November 2011. The tree planting was witnessed by the Rector Universitas Ma Chung, Ibu Leenawaty Limantara, Ph.D. To add to the theme of the tree planting day, guests and reporters attending the event were also each given a small Japanese Soka plant as a token of appreciation from the Directorate.
Ma Chung’s Basketball scores at the L.A Light National Campus League November 14, 2011 Returning to the same task and activity several years ago, this year, the boy’s basketball team of Universitas Ma Chung once again competed in the East Region Final L.A Light Campus League Nasional. Grouped with UK Petra, Universitas Airlangga, and ITN Malang, our Universitas Ma Chung’s team garnered three points from the victory over ITN Malang with the score of 50-43 at the match held on Wednesday 2 November 2011.
Ma Chung for Pelangi Bangsaku November 02, 2011 As our appreciation for Senior High schools who are producing future undergraduates, Universitas Ma Chung supported the event named “Pelangi Bangsaku” (The Rainbow Spectrum of my Nation) SMAK Kolese St. Yusuf Malang, 29-30 October. Having students from around 26 provinces throughout Indonesia, SMAK Kolese St. Yusuf has 20 Jassa (Jalinan asih siswa se-daerah asal – Association of Provinces of Origin). “With Jassa in our school, the students from the same provinces could help each other. So those who came from far away could feel more comfortable in Malang because of Jassa,” explained Bp. Peter B. Sihombing, principal of SMAK St. Yusuf Malang.
Ayo Donor Darah (Let’s Donate Blood) November 02, 2011 Rotaract Club of Universitas Ma Chung held a social activity in the form of a Blood Donation drive for the public on Thursday 27 October 2011. Strategically situated at Grand Hall Malang Town Square (Matos), this selfless act targetted 200 donors but it had to close early due to overwhelming response and shortage of blood collection bags. At 18.00, the Red Cross Blood Donation staff started packing up when the numbers reached 239 bags.
Jana Czuckowitz : Two unforgettable months in Indonesia October 19, 2011
As the sun slowly sets over the mountains surrounding the city of Malang, my last day in Indonesia comes to an end. While filling my (now way too small) backpack with lots of cloths, souvenirs and scraps of papers, uncountable memories of the last eight weeks come to my mind.
NOKIA Indonesia Giving Public Lecture at Universitas Ma Chung October 04, 2011 It was an honor for Universitas Ma Chung when NOKIA Indonesia once again presented a public lecture to its undergraduates in our Chlorobium Limicola class (Wednesday, 28 /09/2011). This lecture, attended by 50 unergraduates from the Teknik Informatika (Information Technology) and Sistem Informasi (Information System) study programs, was a continuation of the Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) workshop together with NOKIA Indonesia presented in July 2011.
This time, NOKIA Indonesia was represented by the Development Manager of NOKIA Indonesia Narenda Wicaksono, to offer opportunities for the undergraduates to expand mobile applications. “Cross Cultural Communication in International Business and Advertising” Presentation October 04, 2011 There was an event at Ma Chung University where, once again, it was another opportunity for foreign guests to present an interesting topic for students, lecturers and staff in a commitment to improve them.
It took place on 22 September when Alexandra Czyz presented very useful information about “Cross Cultural Communication in International Business and Advertising” INAUGURATION OF A PROFESSOR: “Understanding the fastidious demeanour of Prof. Dr. Patrisius Istiarto Djiwandono” September 21, 2011 For the first time after 4 years since the founding of Ma Chung University, a fledgling university in the small campus town of Malang, East Java, a Professor was being inaugurated on Saturday 17 September 2011. For Dr Patrisius, it has been a meticulous journey of hardwork and sheer determination prior to be confered such a prestigious title, and in no way, instantaneous.
Prof. Dr. Patrisius Istiarto Djiwnadono, or being refered to familiarly as Patris, started his humble steps to collect academic qualifying points to become a professor since 2001. These were the painstaking years dedicated to accumulate exactly 850 points before becoming a professor.
MCF 2011 : "Ma Chung for Me and You" September 13, 2011 
Ma Chung Festival or popularly known as MCF is a series of Campus Orientation Programs (or OSPEK) for the new undergraduates of MA Chung University. Held for the fifth time since the onset of the University as established by its 93 founders, MCF is a unique program for this University which never done in any other universities in Indonesia. The series of events at MCF commenced from 31 July 2011, kicking it off with Parents’ Day; where students’ study programs and activities were introduced, followed by the symbolic Opening Ceremony of MCF by the Rector of Ma Chung University, Ibu Leenawaty Limantara.
International Seminar by Prof. Dr. Yuzo Shioi, Biochemistry Expert September 13, 2011 
“Chlorophyll is a living pigment. Brotosudarmo, PhD leads Ma Chung Research Center for Photosynthetic Pigments (MRCPP) to be officially selected on July 30, 2011 to become a Research Affiliate member of the Photosynthetic Antenna Research Center (PARC), an Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC) funded by the US Department of Energy, Office of Science, Office of Basic Energy Sciences.
Blessings in the Mid of 2011 June 23, 2011 In the mid 2011 one of English Department teaching staffs in Ma Chung University, Daniel Ginting, has gained fabulous achievements. Firstly, in early May, the US State Department announced that Daniel was selected to be the one of nominees, among other 25 best students during a 3-month E-Teacher- course, and hence he was awarded to attend the Summer Institute from July 23 to August 14 that would take place in University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). Secondly, in June this year Directorate General of Higher Education in Indonesia (DIKTI) also declared that Daniel Ginting was one of the full scholarship grantees (BPPS) due to his excellent performance during the test in the last May. With this BPPS, Daniel deserves to attend his Doctoral Degree that is going to start in the very near future. “Blessings in the mid of the year,” said Ginting, an English Department teaching staff who is known for his singing hobby by his students and his colleagues in Ma Chung University.
Ma Chung University Students at ISWI 2011 June 23, 2011 Three of Ma Chung University’s students (Verena Ersa Yuwono, Richard, dan Lailatul A’isya) have been chosen as Indonesia delegation to attend “International Student Week in Ilmenau” , held in Germany at 13-22 May 2011. This is their report. Ma Chung University, University of Achievement March 30, 2011 In less than 4 years, Ma Chung University has established itself as an outstanding university. During a meeting in the Working Meeting of Leaders of Higher Education Region VII Kopertis East Java (PTS Rakerpim Kopertis VII) from 9 to 10 March 2011 attended by 301 university authorities in East Java region, the Coordinator of the region VII, Prof. Dr. H. Sugijanto, MS, Apt. presented Ma Chung University an award as "The Outstanding University in the Field of Higher Education Research and Community Service as well as Student Affairs".
A Mixed Bag March 10, 2011 The English Literature Study Program held a seminar for lecturers, junior and senior-high school teachers. This seminar was held as one of the community service programs of the English department. The program was held on Saturday, February 26, 2011 and attended by more than 90 participants. "A Mixed Bag" as the theme of the seminar was proposed by Drs. Jacobus Gräper, MA, as one of Ma Chung University Academic Advisors from the Netherlands, who became the main speaker at this seminar. The seminar "A Mixed Bag" was about 1) the origin of the English language, 2) what is syntax, 3) the use of English as a global language, and 4) why English should be studied by students in Indonesia. Science, Sports, and Art Week 2011 March 1, 2011 Starting a new semester, the Student Executive Board (BEM), Ma Chung University held a Science, Sports, and Art Week (SSAW) 2011 activity and concluded the program with a bazaar celebrating Valentine’s Day. SSAW is an annual competition among study programs in various fields, such as quizzes, debates, futsal, basketball, volleyball, swimming, and others.
Chinese New Year February 17, 2011 It is not the first time for all the lecturers of Chinese at Ma Chung University to celebrate the Chinese New Year in Indonesia. Eight out of ten lecturers could not go back to their country, China, due to their job contract with Ma Chung University. Cong Ye, one of the Chinese lecturers said that they only ate together, watched TV and spent the time together for the Chinese New Year Celebration on February 3rd, last week. They could not go to different places as they had no means of transportation to take them around. They are Pan Xuan, Wu Mo Lin, Liang Jin Feng, Prof. Zhitao Zang, Cong Ye, Zhou Cong, Li Song Lin, dan Zhang Hui Ru, while the two others, Huang Shi Ru and Yang Min are in China right now. Cong Ye stated that it is her second time celebrating the Chinese New Year in Indonesia. U.S. Consulate General Commemorates Martin Luther King Day with Educators in Surabaya February 4, 2011 The four lecturers of English Literature Study Program of Ma Chung University who are also teacher on-line course scholarship awardees of RELO - U.S. Embassy Jakarta attended a dinner and gathering invitation with the American English Language Fellows and English Teaching Assistants positioned in East Java. The program took place at Hotel Shangri-la Surabaya on January 16, 2011. With the theme "Dr. King and the Legacy of Public Speaking and Education in Social Movements," the event was intended to commemorate the values inherited from the American activist Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in declaring peace without violence. Al Jazeera TV to Ma Chung January 31, 2011 On Monday, January 24, 2011, Ma Chung University had a visit from the International News TV channel Al-Jazeera to cover the teaching and learning activities at the university. The main thing that makes Al Jazeera interested in covering Ma Chung is the activities of teaching Chinese which they think are unique. The visit led by Mr. Sohaib Jassim, the Bureau Chief of Al-Jazeera Indonesia, started with the shooting of Chinese class taking place in the Rabindranath Tagore Language Laboratory. The next activity was to conduct interviews with two Chinese teachers who explained the importance of speaking Chinese and some teaching methods applied to students. The shooting was then continued with an interview with Mrs. Leenawaty Limantara as Rector of Ma Chung University, wherein she explained clearly the importance of learning languages at Ma Chung University. The Rector also described the vision and mission as well as some academic activities regarding character building for students.  The government of Indonesia through the PP RI no. 19 of 2005 requires that every education institution both formal and non-formal must perform an education quality assurance to meet or even exceed the National Education Standards. This regulation is not only for private universities, but also state universities. Thus, with the existence of the regulation, colleges and universities in Indonesia have to increase the quality of education by conducting Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) which is then reported to the Directorate of Higher Education (DIKTI), The Ministry of National Education, Republic of Indonesia.
